It must be tough to be on top,
To have no one by your side,
People looking up to you
Your coattails they hope to ride.
It must be lonely on that shelf
collecting dust as you gain age.
You might say and do as you please
But you fear to lose your wage.
Those cameras must be hot
Those lights must be too bright
Those fans must bust your ear–drums
They all might love your work
You may laud their applause, but
Who’s under whose…thumbs
It must be tough to be on top,
To have them all scream out your name,
Just one touch could make them senseless
Your skill puts them to shame.
Watch them from your pedestal
They watch you from the crowds
They watch you fly and fall
That crowd is like an ocean
Lapping up to touch your feet
You hope that you don’t drown
You hope that you don’t drown
It must be tough to be on top,
I can’t imagine why,
They want to be like you
They just don’t know your pride.
